Twenty Eight Years And Still Going Strong

Twenty eight years ago around 7:45 this morning at Lakeland High School in Shrub Oak, New York...HOLY CANNOLLI...did my life ever change!

Me, an innocent, oh heck..a not too innocent 17 year old shows up for school on a freezing cold winter morning and right away gets stopped in my tracks with seemingly good advice from a few people/boys/friends.

"So and so's oldest brother is here...stay away from him, he's trouble...he has tattoos, he wears leather, he's huge, he's mean, he just flew in from California, he's a bad ass"

"Hmmmmmm...I said to myself, trouble, tattoos?" All the wrong things to say to a teenage girl.
**Mom's of pre-teens..heed my warning**

And so, I casually strutted myself into the high school cafeteria where he was sitting, not at a table..but on a table.

Not knowing he was eyeballing me as I tried sooooo hard to appear gracefull and not fall off my 3 inch candies and split my 2 sizes too small super tight Jordache jeans and catch my own neck around my sparkly purple teeny belt with the silver buckle , I clutched tight my new Cheap Trick album and locked my eyes on his massive tattooed arms.

OMG...I had never, ever seen arms like that.
Here it was a January morning, snow and ice still hanging around outside and this guy was wearing a black t-shirt and a vest with some kind of motorcycle club patch things on it.

I thought I died and went to heaven.

Trying to appear casually cool I walked over to say "Hey" to so and so, who was sitting next to him.
Trying not to appear too obvious that I was looking at him like he was some kind of side of beefcake I attempted to converse with so and so and then he looked right at me and said the two words to me I will never forget...

"Cool band"

That's all it took...there was no way on Earth that guy would ever belong to anyone else.

Little did I know, because he was trying to be so smooth and all that he was thinking the same darn thing about me.

A couple of hours later as I left for lunch and took myself across the street to the supermarket to find something more edible then mystery meat sandwiches...I spotted ole hunky arms again....in the fresh fruit section.
That's when he came up to me and said the six words I will always hold sacred..

"Want a bite of my apple".

SIGH....I said "No".

I got into my Mom's car {sorry Mom!} and instead of driving back to school..I drove off to spend the rest of the school day with hunky arms.

Needless to say, by that afternoon we were a couple...yeppers, that fast.
And, a couple we have been for twenty eight years.

So....to comenserate 28 years of craziness that only he and I can make I have decided that maybe it was time you all heard a few words from the man who appears never to have anything to say, but in reality..has a lot to say, he just can't type real fast and that's why he's never on here...except to read updates and catch up on what kind of pictures of his kids are going around.

So, here we go..the very first and more then likely last interview with the man who stole my heart all those years ago.

****The Interview****

Hey Baby
Hi Kim.

Do you know why I'm interviewing you today?
No idea.

Did you know I've always wanted to be a photojournalist?
Well, you are a bit of a voyer {that means nosey}.

Do you know how long it took me to pronounce that word right?
Weeks if not months because you are kind of blonde.

Do you think I'm pretty?
I think your beautiful.

OK, let's get serious.
You've been a parent for a long time, what advice would you give to parents of teenagers?
Kill them all.
{not really}

What, in your opinion who is harder to raise, teen girls or teen boys?
Girls

Do you like my new glasses?
I think you look hot in those glasses.

Remember when I used to freak the kids out by telling them I was really an alien because of my two different color eyes and they believed me? Do you remember what I told thtem my alien name was and where I was from?
Yeah..you were from Icksmar and the name was Z something.

Actually the name was Zebular but that was a good try.
Shake head..silence

Do you think it was bad parenting to freak them out like that?
Ummm...no worse then telling them about Santa.

What is your favorite food?
Beer

If you could go anywhere in the world and spend one month there, where would you go?
Anyplace my family wasn't. Actually I would like to spend time in Tialand to see the jungles and the wild life.

Would you take me with you?
Yes

Do you love me more then Nintendo?
Hmmmmmm.
Yes, I love you more then Nintendo, there is nothing I love more then you.

What is your favorite color?
My favorite color is blue.

With Valentines Day right around the corner, alot of guys will be popping the question to their g-friends. What advice would you give him before he popped the big Q?
Don't get caught up in the whole Valentines day thing. Be sure you really love your girl..make sure you really love her.

I've been folding your pocket t-shirts for 28 years, will you be getting me a romantic Valentines Day surprise?
Probably not. Well maybe. I don't know.
I make you dinner every night, isn't that a romance? Besides, we give the gift of love to each other everyday. I don't need Hallmark to remind me to tell you that I love you everday.

Then you probably shouldn't look on the favorites bar on the computer where I leaft hints, oops I mean bookmarked a couple of romantic things.
I won't.

By the way, I still think your hot.
Thank you very much.

You've been an old married guy for quite a while. What advice would you give to another guy who is just starting his married life?
Go to work everyday and take care of business at home, or someone else will do it for you.

Would you ever consider letting me play your Nintendo?
Absolutely, that's why I got an extra controller.

How do you really feel about cooking dinner every night?
I love it.

What household appliance that I abuse do you hate to fix the most?
The vacumn first, the washing machine second.

Who would you leave me for?
Nobody.

What makes you laugh?
You and this interview.

What is the most annoying thing that I do that really drives you nuts?
When you talk to me and stare at the computer at the same time. You know I can't hear you when your backs to me.

What do you love about me the most?
Your a good Mom and your fat butt.

If you could have seen what your life would have been today, 28 years ago, would that have changed things?
I still would have married you because I wouldn't have wanted Kody to have different parents. I don't think any other couple could have gotten him through like we have.

Do you recall your pick-up line to me 28 years ago?
Want a bite of my apple?

Was it love at first sight for you?
I knew you were the one, not sure if it was love or lust though.

Do you remember what album I was carrying when I walked up to you in the high school cafeteria?
Cheap Trick Live at Budakhan

Do you remember the very first thing you ever said to me?
Cool band.

What was the worst day of your life?
Two days...when my Nana died and the day we found out about Kody's tumor.

What was the happiest?
August 8th 2007 when Dr. Pincus told us he couldn't see any tumor left on Kody's MRI and of course the day we got married.

What are you making for dinner tonight?
Ham and potato cassarole from scratch.

OK, thanks for this interview. I really think your hot.
I think your pretty hot too.

And that, my friends concludes todays 28 years and still going strong interview with one very married man who still comes home to this crazy zoo we live in everday...
And he makes dinner too. :0)

Have a great day today!

Love, Kim

What a great story...I love the fact that you all are as in love today as you were the day you met. I've been with my guy for almost 18years (married almost 11). I fell in love the first day I met him and I'm still in love with him, but you all seem to have a different kind of love...crazy, head over heels, kindof love. I agree with Carol...want to see the wedding pictures.

Haha, Kim you crack me up. I think an anniversary interview is a great idea and something else for you to pull out 20 more years down the road to share and laugh about. Congrats and I hope you have many more years to come!

What a great interview by two wonderful people. Here's to 28 more years of happiness, heck here's to hundreds more but 28 sure is an accomplishment. Congratulations and enjoy dinner!!

I love, love, LOVED hearing that story all over again, Kim! And the weird thing...when I saw the title of the post, I had a feeling that it was going to be about that day in the cafeteria!!

I also loved the interview. (And...just for the record...I'm still majorly bummed {okay, jealous} that your hubby cooks supper. Mine (conveniently?) walks in right when supper's ready, or heats up the leftovers. Like I said, the next time we come to FL we'll be sure to look your kool family up, and we can even go to a park and I'll even bring something for Karl to grill!!! Just kiddin...! :)

Happy Anniversary!!! (I keep track of our first date, too...my hubby is conveniently reminded every year!)

So today is your meeting anniversary too??! How cool!
My K man and I started dating 31 years ago today at the ripe ol age of 16 and in 10th grade. It was freezing cold out here in western PA and we went to see King Kong at the theater. At the dinner table tonight ( I made Marlboro Mans favorite sandwich, have you tried THAT yet?! yum!) I asked some similar questions as you did in your interview... my how they DO remember things! lol...
Well congratulations to ya- here's to keeping the love alive!

This is very inspiring work you have created for us. Some people need to know that these things can ensue to anyone. You have shown me a better view now.
